![]() Decisions, Decisions: Much ado has been made of Reach’s new ability system, and for good reason. The new weapons are a lot of fun, although I’m sure there will be some people that miss “the good old days” of Battle Rifles and SMGs.Ĥ. The Plasma version, on the other hand, actually allowed me to lock-on to enemies while they were on foot, firing up to four of the sticky explosives that tracked my target. ![]() This allowed me to set traps near key locations, blowing up my foes whenever they came too close. The human Grenade Launcher is one of the few weapons in Reach with what could best be termed an “alt fire” mode, as I could fire a grenade without detonating it by holding down the right trigger. In addition to the DMR, I spent some quality time with a few other new weapons, particularly the Grenade Launcher and its Covenant cousin, the Plasma Grenade Launcher. Little did I know that this mid- to long-range weapon would quickly become my new favorite weapon, as I was able to pull off headshots with much greater ease than with the BR. With that in mind, it’s probably not surprising that I wasn’t exactly jumping up and down with delight when I learned of the new BR-esque Designated Marksman Rifle (or DMR) in Halo: Reach. Weaponology: Before I fully dive into this section on the deliciously destructive new toys in the beta, I should disclose that I hated the Battle Rifle in previous Halo games. This map is perfect for jetpack-sporting Spartans, as using the ramps is a great way to get from top to bottom quickly (and without broken legs).ģ. My personal favorite maps are Boneyard, a massive map (think Sandtrap, only bigger) that’s been designed with the new Invasion game mode in mind, as well as Swordbase, a vertical map that features criss-crossing ramps. Powerhouse looks similar to Overlook with its rocky outcroppings and grassy areas, although the giant pool in the middle provides little cover. Halo custom edition maps suck generator#Our day began with a flythrough of Overlook, a map that features a spectacular vista that provides a lovely backdrop to the inevitable carnage that takes place in games of Generator Defense. The beta will feature 4 new maps, each of which has been tailored and tweaked to support specific game modes. Maptacular: Some would argue that most Halo multiplayer games are only as good as their maps, and this seems to be the case once again. If you’re still not happy with your lot in life, you can either quit or just suck it up.Ģ. Gone are the days of vetoing a map and getting thrown into an even less desirable one, as players will now be offered a number of map/mode combinations that can be voted on democratically. Being able to choose matches based on language or level of competition (in addition to old standby connection speed) makes it more likely that players will be able to find a match that will actually make them happy.Īs for me, I’m most looking forward to using the new and (greatly) improved voting mechanic. Not only will players be able to change their avatar’s cosmetic appearance (more on that later), there are also a number of new Matchmaking improvements. The Customer’s Always Right: Halo players have always had good deal of customization options at their fingertips, but the offerings in recent entries like Halo 3 or ODST pale in comparison to the variety found in Reach. The gentlemen over at were nice enough to compile a top 10 things of why halo: reach is going to be the game of 2010. There really isn’t anything groundbreaking about this new edition but the enhancements they took from Halo 3… man they just ran with it – Honestly, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, just make it better! And folks, that’s exactly what they’re doing. Halo Reach is coming up big with all the leading gaming magazines.
